Horch Kfz. 21
A Schmidt vacu from 1985 plus or minus a couple of years for an Italeri Kfz. 15. The Kfz.21 is a luxureus all-terrain staff car and in the Horch, "mittleres Einheitsfahrgestell" form build in only 40 specimins. Rommel had one and general Blaskowitz, commander of the German troops in Holland used it to come to Wageningen on May 5 and 6 1945 to surrender to the Canadian general Foulkes.

Well the good intentions did not pay off. I took more little projects with me that day and now this magnificent machine stares at me. Let's do a little work on it, shalll we?

The very fragile blue foam pieces are finnaly covered in their first layer of paint. Ready for the second time in Wageningen! On to the handles and stuff.

After the many other projects that grabbed my attention, finnaly the whole of the interiour is made in blue foam. The black stripes are from the CD-writer. Once you scribel the lines the are indented. It's earier than I thought. Nowe the piping and the handles are to be added. |

A little sanding and an airbrush session later, she looks the part. I used the wrong paint and saw the side panels dissolve. I should have known.

What did I do that wonderfull day? I learned to use the blue foam, checked the pictures to find the steps are different and filled the floor too fit the body. Not bad for a day at a this distracting location!

The big day is here! Here is Blaskovich arriving at the same adress on May 5 1945, 78 years earlier. Even more amazing: We get a lunch served just 10 inches to the left of where the original table of the signing stood. I know, it's not the Missouri, but to me this is goose bumbs. The local newspaper prints our visit the next day.

First test with the material for the interiour. Blue foam, but can I glue it? Fill it? Paint it? Well, I've found a few acrylics that don't attack the foam.

The basics are ok. It can be done! Rear fenders are too short, Overal fitting of the bonnet to the body is perfect.

There old vacu kits usually take some sanding and filler. Comparing pictures, the drawing and the chassis against the body gives hope for a good modell. The interiour is my worry. All pictures in Wageningen shows the roof folded down. Logically, it's May.

Come and build with us, Stephan asked me. We're going to build in the capitulation room in Hotel de Wereld in Wageningen. I'll be building Prins Bernhard's car! After some research it turns out Bernard had not one but 2 cars at hand there! And wait! I've got the car that was used by the German commander Blaskowitz in my stash! Let's see wat I need! The vintage vacu kit is put together easily. An old Kfz.15 I bought once on a fair is donating it's chassis and other parts.
